Poipet City Implements Emergency Measures to Protect Lives and Property Amid Rising Floodwaters

Poipet City in Banteay Meanchey Province is implementing emergency measures as the threat to residents' lives and property from rising floodwaters increases. Under the leadership of City Governor Kout Houl, the city administration is urging residents in at-risk areas to heighten their vigilance and take preventative actions to mitigate potential flood-related risks. These emergency measures emphasize that residents, particularly those living in vulnerable or inundated areas, must prioritize their safety. They are advised to evacuate promptly with their families and livestock to safe elevated ground when water levels rise or when instructed by authorities. Additionally, it is crucial to disconnect electricity, secure gas tanks, and regularly monitor official announcements and notifications from the authorities for timely action. For personal safety, residents are warned against walking or driving through water currents exceeding 15 centimeters in depth, as these can pose a danger to both people and vehicles. Caution is also advised regarding venomous animals that may emerge due to flooding, and people are urged to avoid contact with wet electrical equipment to prevent fatal accidents. Regarding public health and sanitation, during flood periods, residents are instructed to adhere to the principles of "clean eating and clean drinking." This includes drinking boiled or safe water, frequent handwashing with soap, and sleeping under mosquito nets to reduce the risk of infectious diseases and other illnesses common during floods. Furthermore, residents are advised to prepare essential supplies in advance, such as dry food, safe water, a first-aid kit, a flashlight, communication devices, and important documents. These should be stored in waterproof bags or containers in a secure location for easy access during emergency evacuations. The Poipet City administration appeals to all residents, especially those in flood-prone areas, to remain constantly vigilant, monitor water levels and official information, and cooperate with the issued guidelines and emergency measures to ensure the safety of their lives, health, and property.
