Sattodgyi Dam nears full capacity, spillway gates opened, 4 villages need to evacuate urgently

MANDALAY The Myanmar Social Rescue Organization (Mandalay Region) announced today that the Sattodgyi Dam reservoir in the Matta District of Mandalay Region is only one and a half feet away from reaching its full capacity, and its spillway gates were opened on August 3rd before it reached full capacity. Consequently, residents of four surrounding villages need to evacuate to higher ground as soon as possible. The full capacity of the Sattodgyi Dam reservoir is 419.5 feet, with a storage capacity of 363,000 acre-feet. Currently, due to the opening of the spillway gates, water levels have risen at the fishermen's jetty, and water is overflowing from the dam's canals and riverbanks adjacent to the villages. Therefore, residents of Pukkantso, Yechaung, Tapechaung, and Intukha villages need to evacuate as soon as possible. The water level at the fishermen's jetty has currently exceeded the danger mark, and it is known that the main motor road could be inundated if the water rises by another three feet. Furthermore, the Myanmar Social Rescue Organization (Mandalay Region) announced that they are prepared to carry out timely rescue and relief operations in case of emergencies.
