Military continues offensive for about 20 days in Kyaukpyan, army officer's house also bombed, says report

The military junta's forces, which began their offensive in Kyaukpyan Township on July 8, have stationed themselves in villages in the northeast of Kyaukpyan Township, such as Myokoin, Yintaikwin, Alekon, Chakattangyi, and Kanu, and are reportedly conducting patrols and offensives in the villages. The advancing troops have been carrying out drone bombings and burning down civilian homes. On July 19, a drone bombing was carried out on the house of the father-in-law of a military junta officer in Myokoin village, according to reports. Mizzima is continuing to investigate this incident. "When the people came in shooting, we had to run for our lives. We couldn't take anything with us. We thought they wouldn't attack their house, so we stayed there. I don't know the officer's name. I've forgotten. The name of his father-in-law, who was hit by the drone, is U Phyu Gyi. He is now traumatized and in a state of disarray," said a source from Kyaukpyan. Mizzima is still contacting officials from the People's Defence Force based in Kyaukpyan Township to inquire about the details of the bombing of the military officer's house. On July 8, U Kyi Soe, 58, from Chakattangyi village, was shot and killed by the advancing military junta forces while he was at his farm. "The military has entered the villages and is exerting excessive force, with pressure from both air and ground. As a result, drone attacks, arson, heavy artillery shelling, and shootings are occurring in the villages, and displaced people are suffering in the open air during the rainy season," the source added. Since the military junta's forces began entering the villages, more than eight villages, including Chakattangyi (Chakattangyi) village, Sinpay village, Minwa village, Seinchaung village, Kyautthe village, Senetkwin village, Thayetkon village, and Myokoin village, have had their local residents displaced without adequate shelter or food during the rainy season, and are in great need of assistance.
