Cambodian Scholars Embark on French and Irish Studies, Urged to Serve as 'Friendship Ambassadors'
Cambodia's First Deputy National Assembly President urged 25 scholarship students heading to France and Ireland to act as 'friendship ambassadors,' strengthening bilateral ties and promoting a positive image of Cambodia. This initiative aligns with the nation's human resource development and international branding strategies.
His Excellency Cheam Yiep, First Deputy President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, has advised the 25 recipients of government scholarships to France and Ireland to serve as "friendship ambassadors." This role is intended to strengthen people-to-people ties and promote a positive image of Cambodia, thereby attracting European investors. The advice was given on the morning of August 6, 2026, at the National Assembly building, when His Excellency had a meeting with the scholarship recipients for the 2026-2027 academic year before their departure for studies abroad. His Excellency Cheam Yiep expressed great congratulations and pride in the scholarship recipients and their families. He emphasized that this highly competitive scholarship is not only a life-changing opportunity for individuals but also a crucial positive factor for Cambodia in enhancing the quality of education and scientific research, which are the foundations of the digital economy and Industry 4.0. Furthermore, the First Deputy President of the National Assembly highlighted that the 7th mandate government prioritizes "human resources" as a top agenda item in its "Pentagonal Strategy - Phase 1" to further strengthen the nation's historical achievements. In response, Mr. Tan Borivath, representative of the French scholarship recipients, and Ms. Pong Chandaroboumy, representative of the Irish scholarship recipients, expressed their profound gratitude to His Excellency for the honor and valuable opportunity. They particularly appreciated gaining insights related to legislative institutions, which will serve as additional capital before commencing their studies abroad. It is worth recalling that from 2020 to 2026, the French Republic has provided scholarships to nearly 400 Cambodian students and civil servants.
