13 Suspects Arrested in Banteay Meanchey Following GPS Tracking of Stolen Motorcycles

In Poipet City, Banteay Meanchey Province, Cambodia, a large-scale criminal crackdown utilizing a GPS tracking system has led to the arrest of 13 suspects. Those apprehended are accused of motorcycle theft, receiving stolen goods, and drug use. The operation was initiated following two motorcycle theft incidents reported in Poipet City in June and July of this year. The local military police, upon receiving the victims' complaints, tracked the GPS signal from the stolen motorcycles. This led them to a residential house in the Kilowatt 4 area of the city, where the suspects were found to be gathered. Upon arrival at the scene, the military police surrounded the suspects. Although the individuals attempted to flee, the unit's swift pursuit resulted in the apprehension of all 13 suspects. Colonel Til Tailiu, commander of the Poipet City Military Police, stated that post-arrest interrogations revealed the suspects were involved not only in motorcycle theft but also in receiving stolen goods, illegal possession and transportation of weapons, and drug use. The suspects have confessed to their crimes, and along with the confiscated evidence, they have been handed over to the Banteay Meanchey Provincial Military Police Command for further processing. Lieutenant Colonel Prom Teng, head of the provincial command's Investigation and Crime Suppression Department, confirmed that the operation was authorized by the provincial commander and received procedural coordination from the provincial court prosecutor. The 13 suspects have now been transferred to the provincial court to undergo legal proceedings. Poipet City, a key hub for cross-border trade with Thailand, has experienced significant economic development. However, it also faces security challenges typical of border regions.
