Hanoi to Halve Vocational Education Institutions to Enhance Efficiency and Quality

Hanoi is set to streamline its vocational education sector by consolidating its institutions. According to a plan announced by the City People's Committee on July 27, the current 10 vocational colleges and 9 intermediate schools will be merged and reorganized into a total of 10 institutions. This initiative is part of a broader plan to restructure and organize vocational education institutions, continuing education centers, and public universities within the city. The reorganization will see the 19 existing vocational colleges and intermediate schools consolidated into larger, more efficient, and effective educational entities. Additionally, 29 vocational education and continuing education centers will be reduced to 14. Following detailed guidance from the Ministry of Education and Training on the criteria and conditions for establishing vocational secondary schools, Hanoi plans to convert five of these centers into the vocational secondary school model. Meanwhile, Hanoi University of Education (Đại học Thủ đô Hà Nội) will maintain its organizational structure, with a focus on training and improving the quality of its human resources. Hanoi, along with other provinces and cities across Vietnam, is actively reorganizing its network of educational institutions. The aim is to shift from a mindset of educational management to one of educational development management, fostering large-scale, streamlined, and effective institutions, and expanding learning opportunities for citizens. This move is part of a nationwide educational system reform in Vietnam, underscoring the urgent need to optimize educational resources, particularly in rural areas, and to cultivate a high-quality workforce that supports economic growth. Under the country's one-party system, government policy decisions tend to be implemented swiftly, and the education sector is no exception.
