Vietnam Rushes Emergency Resettlement for Flood Victims

Following devastating flash floods in Muong Than Commune, Lai Chau Province, numerous households have lost their homes and been forced to evacuate. The Vietnamese government has prioritized the restoration of normal life for affected families, designating the construction of an emergency resettlement area as an immediate key objective. Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung stressed that building new homes for affected families is the immediate priority, calling it a key order from the Prime Minister aimed at restoring normal life at the earliest possible time. Provincial authorities have mobilized maximum manpower and equipment to fast-track the construction of an emergency resettlement area in San Bay village to help residents rebuild their lives as quickly as possible. International volunteer teams, including 48 Malaysian students and 45 students from Indonesia, Cambodia, and Laos studying at universities across Ho Chi Minh City, have joined the relief efforts. Rescue personnel worked around the clock under extremely hazardous conditions amid heavily damaged and contaminated disaster zones from June 29 to July 7. Despite the challenges, they recovered 57 victims' bodies and handed them over to local authorities and families. They also identified and reported several suspected locations where additional victims might be trapped.
