PM Hun Manet Issues Message on 26th National Literacy Day, Emphasizing Quality Inclusive Education

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has issued a message to the nation on the occasion of the 26th National Literacy Day, observed on September 8, 2024. The theme for this year's National Literacy Day is 'Literacy Promotes Quality Inclusive Education.' In line with this theme, the Prime Minister emphasized the government's continued commitment to improving the literacy of all citizens and achieving high-quality, inclusive education. Improving literacy rates has long been a crucial pillar of national development in Cambodia. Investments in literacy education have been ongoing since the era of former Prime Minister Hun Sen, leading to a steady increase in the national literacy rate. However, ensuring the 'quality' and 'inclusivity' of education remains a significant challenge. Inclusive education aims to guarantee that all children have the opportunity to receive a quality education, regardless of economic, geographical, or physical limitations. The Hun Manet administration is pushing forward with reforms in the education sector, and this message signifies the continuity of these policies and a strong will to enhance national literacy. The Prime Minister highlighted that literacy is an essential element not only for individuals but for the development of the nation as a whole, recognizing that investment in education is the most important investment in future generations. This initiative is based on the understanding that nurturing human capital is indispensable for Cambodia to enhance its economic and social standing within the ASEAN region. An increase in literacy rates and improved educational quality are expected to lead to the development of a more skilled workforce, contributing to attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and strengthening the competitiveness of domestic industries.
