Pailin Province Donates Offerings to Monks During Rainy Season - Promoting Buddhism and Disaster Preparedness

On July 22, 2026, a government delegation in Pailin Province presented offerings and donations to monks residing in 34 temples across the province to support their Vassa (rainy season retreat). The event took place at Wat Rattanasophoan, also known as Wat Kaug Kang, in Pailin City. The delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister I Chhan, head of the government's provincial working group, and Dr. Bain Sreymom, Governor of Pailin Province. They handed over a variety of items, including food, daily necessities, and cash, to the monks. Deputy Prime Minister I Chhan emphasized the Cambodian government's continued strong commitment under Prime Minister Hun Manet to the progress and harmony of religions. He noted that the Buddhist clergy and the secular administration are developing in parallel under an atmosphere of peace, political stability, and development across all sectors, which fosters the prosperity of Buddhist followers and the growth of temples. He further explained that the Vassa period is a crucial time for monks and novices to diligently study Buddhist scriptures and practice Vinaya (monastic discipline) for three months, from the first day of the waning moon of Asadha to the full moon of Assuja. The offerings of consumables and cash presented during this time are intended to alleviate the hardships faced by monks who are devoted to practicing the Dharma and studying the teachings of the Buddha. Additionally, Deputy Prime Minister I Chhan urged citizens to remain highly vigilant against natural disasters, as this season typically brings heavy rainfall, strong winds, and thunderstorms, posing potential risks. He advised reporting any incidents immediately to the nearest local authorities for prompt intervention and emergency assistance. The donated items included Vassa candles, rice, bottled water, fruit juices, milk, fish sauce, canned fish, noodles, tea, and sugar, distributed equally among the 34 temples.
