Cambodia Spends Over $300M on Social Assistance Program in Over Two Years

The Cambodian government has spent approximately $306 million (1,226 billion Cambodian Riel) on the implementation of the 'Family-Based National Social Assistance Program' over the past two years. This program is identified as one of the six priority policy programs of Prime Minister Hun Manet for the seventh mandate of the National Assembly and has demonstrated notable progress in supporting citizens' livelihoods. As of August 2026, the program has provided cash assistance to the following target beneficiaries: * Poor households: 791,339 families * Pregnant women and children under two years old: 246,763 individuals * Poor students (primary and secondary education): 429,364 individuals * Persons with disabilities: 68,693 individuals * Elderly persons (aged 60 and above): 434,521 individuals The government's significant investment in this program underscores its commitment to social welfare and aims to stabilize the living conditions of vulnerable populations, particularly those facing economic hardship.
