Ho Chi Minh City is advancing a project to fully unlock its night-time economy potential, centered on cultural industries. This plan, with a vision towards 2045, aims to enhance the city's appeal and create new growth opportunities.
Despite its vibrant lifestyle and strong demand for entertainment, Ho Chi Minh City’s night-time economy has yet to realise its full potential. The city’s recently approved project on developing the night-time economy for 2026–2030, with a vision to 2045, is expected to create momentum for cultural industry growth while enhancing the city’s standing as a creative and modern city with a distinctive identity. This initiative aligns with the Politburo’s Resolution No. 80-NQ/TW on the development of Vietnamese culture, which provides fresh opportunities to leverage its cultural, historical, tourism, and creative assets. Under Vietnam's single-party system, such large-scale urban development projects are advanced as part of national strategy under the Party's leadership. Economic growth and improved living standards for citizens are crucial for maintaining the regime's legitimacy, and revitalizing the night-time economy is believed to contribute to these goals through job creation and consumption expansion.
