Indonesia will commemorate its 81st Independence Day on August 17, 2026, with a ceremony at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, featuring the proclamation of independence and the lowering of the national flag. According to Deputy Minister of State Secretary Juri Ardiantoro, this ceremony is highly anticipated by the Indonesian public. President Prabowo Subianto is set to preside over the event. The government will also implement a 'ticket war' mechanism to invite the general public, with details to be announced later. The ceremony is expected to host over 8,100 participants, symbolizing the 81st anniversary. Additionally, a 'people's party' will be held at the National Monument (Monas) on the same day. This festival will include entertainment on outdoor stages, traditional 17th-of-August competitions, local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprise (UMKM) booths, and the provision of 500,000 free meals. Numerous children's play areas will also be available for families. Furthermore, the 81st Independence Day celebrations will also take place in Nusantara, the new capital city being developed in Kalimantan, coordinated by the Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN). This ensures that the spirit of independence is shared in the nation's future center. Source: CNN Indonesia
