Phnom Penh Clears Drainage Systems to Tackle Flooding on Russian Federation Boulevard

Phnom Penh City is intensifying efforts to clean drainage systems and canals in areas around Russian Federation Boulevard to address recurring flooding and blockages. The Department of Public Works and Transport of Phnom Penh, in collaboration with the authorities of Po Sen Chey and Sen Sok districts, has launched an operation to excavate and clean numerous drainage systems and water channels. Specialized officials from the department stated that the expert team has been conducting this campaign for one week, from September 14th to September 20th. Their work involves clearing drainage systems, widening clogged manholes, removing garbage obstructing them, and excavating along railway lines and the Tuol Sampov canal to facilitate water flow and prevent blockages. On-site inspections along Russian Federation Boulevard and Street 113K revealed severe garbage blockages in three main drainage lines, affecting three out of three main culverts. Additionally, three other garbage blockages were found in the Cham Oulek canal and the Tang Krasang railway-side canal. Efforts have been completed to resolve these issues and ensure clear water flow. The authorities are urging all citizens to cooperate in preventing and stopping the dumping of waste into drainage systems and water channels. They emphasize that by assisting in clearing obstructions at manholes during rainfall, citizens can contribute to effectively reducing floodwaters on Russian Federation Boulevard.
