Remains of 197 Martyrs Unearthed at HCM City Park, Honoring Sacrifice, Ensuring Future

Remains of 197 martyrs from the Vietnam War era have been discovered in Le Thi Rieng Park in Ho Chi Minh City as part of a large-scale campaign to collect and identify war martyrs' remains. The ongoing effort, dubbed the '500-Day and 500-Night Campaign,' aims to honor national sacrifice and preserve historical memory. As of 4 pm on July 29, 128 individual sets of remains and 22 others from four mass graves had been recovered, along with numerous personal artifacts. Officials described the mission as sacred, embodying Vietnamese tradition and the current generation's duty to fulfill the aspirations of the people and their families. Party General Secretary and State President To Lam visited the park on July 17 to pay tribute to late Party General Secretary Tran Phu and national martyrs, also inspecting the ongoing recovery operations.
