NBC Places Chief Bank Under Three-Month Provisional Administration

PHNOM PENH, 21 September 2026 – The National Bank of Cambodia (NBC) has placed Chief (Cambodia) Commercial Bank Plc. under provisional administration for three months, effective from September 21, 2026. In an official notice, the central bank said the decision followed identified weaknesses in Chief Bank’s compliance with applicable banking regulations. NBC has appointed Baker Tilly (Cambodia) Co., Ltd. as the provisional administrator. During the three-month period, the administrator will have authority to oversee and manage the bank’s operations in accordance with Cambodia’s banking laws and regulations. The process will include assessing the bank’s financial and operational position and preparing recommendations for the NBC to determine the appropriate next steps.
