Woman Killed by Rescue Pitbull in Bangkok

A tragic incident has occurred in Bangkok, Thailand, where a 70-year-old woman lost her life after being attacked by a pitbull she had rescued from euthanasia five years ago. The victim, identified as Wandee, suffered fatal injuries to her face, neck, and arms from the seven-year-old brown pitbull named Giant on September 9. According to local news reports, the incident took place while she was visiting the dog to clean and feed him. Emergency responders found her inside the house with severe, fatal injuries. This heartbreaking story takes a darker turn when considering the animal's violent past. Five years prior, Giant had attacked and killed his original owner in Thailand's Chonburi province. At that time, authorities had planned to euthanize the dangerous animal to protect the public. However, Wandee stepped in to adopt the pitbull, aiming to give him a second chance at life. Wandee went to great lengths to ensure Giant had a comfortable life. She rented a single-story house in the Bueng Kum district entirely for the large dog to roam freely and even hired a live-in housekeeper to keep him company. Wandee traveled daily from her main residence to feed, clean, and play with the pitbull. Despite knowing the dog’s violent history, Wandee showed immense love and care for the animal. Neighbors and local workers had reportedly warned her repeatedly about the dog’s aggressive tendencies, urging extreme caution during her visits. Unfortunately, these warnings became a grim reality during a routine grooming session. On the evening of the attack, witnesses stated the dog appeared irritable and unwell. As Wandee opened Giant’s enclosure to gently wipe his face, the housekeeper attempted to secure the dog with a rope. However, the animal suddenly turned highly aggressive and viciously attacked Wandee. The terrified housekeeper fled the scene for her own safety. Upon arrival, police and medical teams could not immediately reach the severely injured victim. The seven-year-old pitbull was still pacing restlessly and agitated around the property. Officials had to call in specialized animal control workers to safely capture and confine the dog. By the time the animal was secured, it was too late to save the woman. The Watchdog Thailand Foundation is now working with local authorities to determine the dog’s future. Giant will likely be transferred to a specialized animal shelter equipped to handle his history. This devastating event serves as a stark reminder of the severe risks associated with adopting dogs with violent pasts. Many animal experts strongly advise against integrating such animals into typical residential environments.
