350 Pickup Trucks Converge on Lang Co Bay for Vietnam Festival

The "Vietnam Pickup Truck Day 2026" returned after a three-year hiatus, drawing 350 pickup trucks and around 1,000 enthusiasts to Chan May - Lang Co commune in Thua Thien Hue province. The event featured off-road racing challenges and a simulated drowning rescue drill. Kicking off the day, a convoy of pickup trucks, led by traffic police, paraded around the scenic Lap An Lagoon in Chan May - Lang Co. Pickup truck owner gatherings were previously held regularly, with the last one in 2023, before a three-year interruption. Ford Ranger models dominated the participation, mirroring their strong market sales. Following the parade, experienced drivers competed in an off-road race across sandy terrain. The soft sand presented a significant challenge, highlighting the importance of four-wheel drive systems, driver expertise, and proper tire pressure management for traction without digging in during aggressive acceleration. Beyond the off-road race, various other activities took place on the beach of Lang Co Bay, including cooking sessions and first-aid training. Members of pickup truck clubs engaged in a simulated rescue using inflatable boats. The competition aimed to enhance members' skills and provide more in-depth professional training in rescuing accident victims. In a simulated scenario, a drowning victim was promptly brought ashore by the rescue team. The participating teams received guidance from doctors on how to transport victims and administer emergency care, such as chest compressions and artificial respiration. Dr. Ngo Duc Hung, Deputy Director of the Emergency Resuscitation Center at Hanoi Medical University Hospital, provided expert instruction.
