Hanoi University of Science and Technology Plans to Open Medical Faculty

Hanoi University of Science and Technology (USTH) is planning to establish a Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, expanding its educational offerings in health sciences. The university has begun admitting students to its Pharmacy program in 2023, with two specializations: Pharmacology - Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Industry and Formulation. By 2030, USTH aims to strengthen its Pharmacy program and launch new disciplines with high societal demand, including Pharmaceutical Technology, Public Health, Nursing, and Nutrition. Beyond undergraduate studies, the university also intends to offer postgraduate programs in health sciences and is preparing to open a medical program after 2030. Associate Professor Dr. Pham The Hai, in charge of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, stated, "In the long term, the faculty aims to become a leading unit for training, research, and innovation in Medicine, Pharmacy, and Health Sciences, characterized by scientific and technological identity, close ties to practice, international integration, and responsiveness to the needs of Vietnam's healthcare system." Professor Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, President of USTH, highlighted that the establishment of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy is a strategic step built upon the strong cooperation between the Vietnamese and French governments. "We consistently adhere to the direction of promoting education in fields where Vietnam has demand and French partners have strengths," she said. "The Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy is the crystallization of that direction, connecting Vietnam's development needs with the excellence of French education and science." According to Thanh, USTH will continue to develop strategic fields such as Medicine, Nuclear Engineering, and other advanced science and technology disciplines to address major national challenges. Currently, Vietnam has approximately 35 medical schools, with nearly 20 being public and the rest private. Tuition fees for medical programs in the 2026-2027 academic year are projected to range from VND 48 million to VND 150 million per year. USTH, also known as the Vietnam-France University, was established in 2009 under an intergovernmental agreement between Vietnam and France, operating under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. Its orientation is to become an excellent, internationally recognized university in science and technology. Currently, USTH offers 20 undergraduate programs, primarily in strategic technology fields aligned with the strengths of France and Europe. In 2026, the university expects to enroll around 1,200 students. Tuition fees for Vietnamese students in standard programs are VND 59 million per year, VND 77 million for Pharmacy, and VND 83 million for Vietnam-France dual degree programs. The first-year tuition for Aerospace Engineering is VND 105 million.
