Cambodian Senate Assigns Specialized Committees to Review Four Draft Laws Aligned with International Standards

The Cambodian Senate has assigned its specialized committees to review four draft laws related to international agreements in the civil aviation, automotive, and construction sectors. The decision was made during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on the morning of July 23, 2026, chaired by First Vice President Uch Borith. This action follows the transmission of the draft laws from the National Assembly to the Senate. The four draft laws include: 1. A draft law approving the Kingdom of Cambodia's accession to the International Convention on the Recognition of Rights in Respect of Mobile Equipment on Aircraft and the Protocol thereto on Matters Specific to Aircraft Equipment. 2. A draft law approving the ASEAN Framework Agreement on Mutual Recognition Arrangements. 3. A draft law approving the ASEAN Sectoral Mutual Recognition Arrangement for Building and Construction Materials. 4. A draft law approving the ASEAN Mutual Recognition Arrangement on Type Approval for Automotive Products. According to a press release from the Senate, after review and discussion, the Standing Committee decided to assign the Committee on Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Information (Committee No. 5) to collaborate with the Committee on Public Works, Transport, Civil Aviation, Post, Telecommunications, Industry, Science, Technology, Innovation, Mines, Energy, Commerce, Land Management, Urban Planning, and Construction (Committee No. 9). These committees will study the aforementioned four draft laws and submit their opinions to the Standing Committee, in preparation for their presentation at a forthcoming extraordinary session of the Senate. The four draft laws were unanimously approved by the National Assembly during its session on July 14, 2026. They are considered significant for promoting Cambodia's economy and trade regionally and globally, particularly in the civil aviation, automotive, and construction sectors.
