River water levels in two cities exceed warning levels

The Department of Meteorology and Hydrology announced at 8 AM on September 9 that river water levels in Bago and Madauk townships have exceeded their respective warning levels. The Salween River in Bago is approximately 1 foot 1 inch above the warning level for the city, and although it may recede by about 6 inches within the next day, it is expected to remain above the warning level. Similarly, the Sittoung River in Madauk is approximately 3 inches above the warning level for the city, and it may fall below the warning level within the next 36 hours. Therefore, residents living near the riverbanks and in low-lying areas within Madauk and Bago townships are advised to exercise caution and to evacuate to safer locations away from flood risks. Furthermore, the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology announced that due to the active monsoon in the Andaman Sea and the southern Bay of Bengal, atmospheric instability in the Andaman Sea and the Bay of Bengal, and the active development of cumulonimbus clouds, scattered to widespread thunderstorms are possible in most regions, including Nay Pyi Taw, from the morning of September 9 to the 13th.
