Policeman kills wife at Chonburi kindergarten; 44 students safe

A police officer shot and killed his wife, a teacher at a kindergarten in Chonburi, Thailand. Fortunately, all 44 students present at the time were safe. The perpetrator is currently negotiating with authorities. The motive remains under investigation. At approximately 11:30 a.m. on September 9, police were alerted to a shooting at a kindergarten in the Nong Pla Lai subdistrict. Responders, including rescue teams and Chonburi Governor Naris Niramaiwong, arrived at the scene. Students were moved to safety, and parents were contacted to pick them up. The governor ordered the kindergarten's closure. The victim, identified as Mrs. Pailin, 48, was found deceased in the cafeteria with a gunshot wound. A 9mm shell casing was recovered. The suspect, identified as Pol. Sub. Lt. Thatsapong Thongthatch, fled in his white sedan but is now being tracked to his residence, where negotiations for his surrender are underway. Investigations into the cause and motive are ongoing. An eyewitness reported seeing a man converse with the victim before a gunshot was heard, after which the man returned to his car and fled.
