Kampong Chhnang Province held a work achievements review conference for the 5th mandate of Commune/Sangkat Councils on September 7th via video conference (ZOOM). The event was presided over by Deputy Governor Ms. Bon Sophi and attended by provincial council members, deputy governors, leaders of provincial departments and units, municipal/district and commune/sangkat authorities, and numerous military forces. In her remarks, Ms. Bon Sophi emphasized the significant importance of the conference in reflecting the commitment to sustain the organization as a voice and protector of the common interests of Commune/Sangkat Councils. The goal is to enhance the quality of life and well-being of citizens through decentralized and deconcentrated good governance, and to improve the efficiency of public service delivery at the local level by developing capacities. She further stated that capacity building and human resource development are key strategies of the Royal Government. The focus on the development of physical and transportation infrastructure plays a crucial role in promoting economic growth and poverty reduction, with the participation of multilateral and bilateral development partners. This aims to improve the daily living standards of the people and contribute to poverty reduction in the coming years through diligent work and entrepreneurship to increase income. Ms. Sophi also affirmed that the government welcomes initiatives from sub-national administrations at both provincial and national levels. The Royal Government considers the Association of Commune/District Councils as an important institution and partner in driving the processes of decentralization and deconcentration reform, and in implementing local governance in Cambodia. Proactiveness in resolving challenges faced by citizens at the local level depends on internal solidarity and a high sense of responsibility from all officials, while maintaining security, public order, environment, culture, social morality, dignity, and promoting local economic development.
