Maguindanao del Norte Village Official Arrested in General Santos Drug Bust

A village councilor from Maguindanao del Norte was arrested in a buy-bust operation in General Santos City, along with two other individuals, for allegedly possessing illegal drugs worth approximately P1.4 million. Police confirmed the arrests occurred on Tuesday afternoon in Barangay Labangal. Brig. Gen. Alan Manibog, regional director of the Police Regional Office (PRO-12), stated on Wednesday that the suspects were identified as high-value targets in the region. Approximately 200 grams of suspected methamphetamine, locally known as shabu, with an estimated value of P1,365,400, were seized. The arrested individuals include a village official from Barangay Mangay, Talitay, Maguindanao del Norte (alias "Naro"), and two residents of Barangay Labangal in General Santos City (alias "Jolt" and "Kivk"). Authorities also confiscated the buy-bust money and personal belongings believed to have been used to conceal the narcotics. Charges are being prepared against the suspects for alleged violations of Republic Act No. 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. "Every gram of illegal drugs confiscated during police operations could mean saving several people from the danger of dangerous substances," Manibog remarked, underscoring the impact of such seizures. The operation highlights the ongoing challenges in combating the drug trade in the Philippines, even at the local governance level. The government has consistently prioritized its war on drugs, and such operations are expected to continue as part of broader law enforcement efforts.
