Mondulkiri Governor's Intervention Resolves Long-Standing Indigenous Land Dispute

A land dispute involving three indigenous families in Mondulkiri province, Cambodia, which had been ongoing for several years, has found a path to resolution following direct intervention by Governor Kong Kimny. This intervention came after residents raised their difficulties and concerns regarding their land ownership and usage rights, which form the primary source of their livelihoods. Siek Munny, the District Governor of Ou Reang, told "Kampuchea Thmey" on July 22 that, following the directives of Mondulkiri Provincial Governor Kong Kimny, the Ou Reang District administration intervened to mediate a land dispute located in Pou Loe village, Dak Dam commune, Ou Reang district, Mondulkiri province. This dispute involved three families and had been stalled for many years. The District Governor further explained that after the authorities listened to the statements of the involved parties and organized a face-to-face mediation session on July 19, both sides accepted the resolution proposed by the authorities and agreed to end the dispute peacefully through reconciliation. The procedural completion is expected in the near future. The Ou Reang District Governor emphasized that the relevant authorities will continue to expedite the resolution process swiftly, transparently, and in accordance with the law and the policies of the Royal Government of Cambodia. In parallel, Sovan Minh, a 38-year-old Pnong indigenous man and representative of the three families residing in Pou Loe village, Dak Dam commune, Ou Reang district, expressed his joy and gratitude to the provincial, district, and commune leaders for their attention in listening to their issues directly and seeking solutions for them. He noted that the dispute had dragged on for years with the other party without a clear resolution. Mr. Sovan Minh expressed hope that the resolution mediated by the authorities would successfully conclude the dispute, allowing the three families to use their land for their livelihoods harmoniously.
