Vu Thi Dung, director of Explore Ha Giang Co., Ltd., a company operating international tourism services, has been arrested in Tuyen Quang province on suspicion of tax evasion. The arrest was announced by the Tuyen Quang Provincial Police on September 16. According to the investigation, Dung, 39, who managed and operated the company in 2023, allegedly failed to declare and pay value-added tax and corporate income tax since the company's establishment. This has reportedly caused billions of dong (tens of millions of USD) in losses to the state budget. The security investigation agency is continuing to clarify the nature and extent of Dung's violations, the amount of tax evaded, her role, and the involvement of other individuals and organizations. This incident highlights the increasing focus on tax compliance within Vietnam's rapidly growing economy.
