President Jokowi Kicks Off Political Safari in Kupang with Walkabout

President Joko Widodo of Indonesia engaged with residents during a car-free day (CFD) event on El Tari Street in Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara Province. The President, who is on a working visit to the region, became the center of attention as he walked and interacted with the local population. Upon spotting President Widodo, residents quickly gathered, eager to greet him, shake his hand, and capture the moment with photos and videos on their mobile phones. The enthusiasm was palpable along the route, with many residents following the President in hopes of a direct interaction. Several citizens called out to the President, requesting photos, while others sought his attention by calling his name. Children also crowded the streets to see him, with one young admirer shouting, "Mr. Jokowi, I'm a fan of you." President Widodo repeatedly stopped to accommodate photo requests and waved to the crowd, receiving an enthusiastic response. Lia, a micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) vendor at the CFD, noted that the atmosphere was different, with her entire stock selling out before 9 AM, indicating a positive economic impact from the President's presence. This casual walk was part of President Widodo's agenda in Kupang City, where he arrived on Friday (July 31) for a series of activities, including attending the Elephant Festival and a Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorda).
