PM Hun Manet: Teachers' Adequate Preparation is Students' Success

Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia emphasized that the quality of education hinges on teachers' adequate preparation, which leads to students' success. He stated this during the graduation ceremony of South-East Asia University on July 21, 2026, in Siem Reap. "The more teachers research broadly and with higher quality, the more quality training can be provided. Equipment and materials are merely secondary means," the Prime Minister said. He added that the success of students today is also the success of teachers, professors, and all staff, including school administrators. On this occasion, 1,500 students graduated. The Prime Minister congratulated them, recognizing this achievement as a result of the combined efforts of students, parents, teachers, professors, and school management, marking a significant enhancement of Cambodia's human capital. Prime Minister Hun Manet highly praised South-East Asia University for its contributions to building human capital in Cambodia, particularly in Siem Reap province, across sectors such as economics, society, business, science, technology, law, agriculture, and rural development, aligning with the government's national development strategy. The university has also provided over 340 scholarships through the "Samdech Techo Hun Sen and Samdech Kittipritbandit Bun Rany Hun Sen" scholarship committee since 2012-2013, with 27 of today's graduates benefiting from this initiative. He also commended the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport for implementing policies, plans, and reform programs to increase participation and improve educational quality at all levels, especially in higher education. Consequently, higher education institutions, both public and private, are rapidly growing and developing human resources. The increasing number of Cambodian students achieving success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics competitions regionally and globally reflects the improved quality of education and training. Prime Minister Hun Manet reiterated that the government considers human resources indispensable for socio-economic development. Efforts are underway to equip Cambodian citizens, especially youth and children, with broad knowledge, practical skills, ethics, discipline, and sound physical and mental health to better meet labor market demands and national defense needs. He affirmed that the government of the 7th mandate of the National Assembly will continue to accelerate reforms in education and vocational training to maximize Cambodia's potential through effective, efficient, and equitable policies, strategies, and comprehensive reform programs.
