BRILink Agents Drive Literacy and Financial Inclusion in North Sumatra
Kursumawati, a BRILink Agent in Simalungun, North Sumatra, is significantly contributing to financial literacy and inclusion. Her success, built on trust and proactive service, has eased access to banking for many residents, demonstrating the vital role of these agents.
In Serbalawan, Dolok Batu Nanggar District, Simalungun Regency, North Sumatra, Kursumawati, a BRILink Agent, plays a crucial role in fostering financial inclusion and literacy within her community. Since joining BRILink in September 2019, she has not only provided access to banking services for her neighbors but also actively promoted financial literacy. Kursumawati recognized the need to proactively introduce financial services to residents because many were accustomed to cash transactions or had to travel long distances to bank branches. She consistently educated the community about the convenience of services available through BRILink Agents, including cash withdrawals, transfers, bill payments, and the purchase of electricity tokens and mobile credit. Over time, residents began to integrate banking services into their daily lives. "I regularly conduct outreach and introduce various services available through BRILink Agents, so that more residents understand the benefits of banking services and choose to transact at my outlet," Kursumawati stated. Public trust has grown over the years, with residents now seeking consultations on banking services tailored to their needs, not just for transactions. Her BRILink Agent outlet has become an easy access point for financial services and a source of information about BRI's products. This close relationship with the community forms the foundation of her business, driving transaction growth, expanding access to formal financial services, and strengthening financial literacy in the area. Kursumawati also implements a cross-selling strategy to add value for customers. For instance, bundling BRI savings account openings with micro-insurance products offers customers additional protection and boosts her business income. Her outstanding performance earned her the Grand Prize in the 2025 Super BRILink Agent Program, where she won a new All New Yaris car. Kursumawati's story highlights the significant role of BRILink Agents in promoting financial inclusion and literacy across Indonesia. As an extension of BRI's services, they bring banking to remote areas, offering solutions for those previously underserved. BRI Corporate Secretary Dhanny emphasized the importance of female BRILink Agents, stating, "BRI will continue to expand financial inclusion, so that more great women can create a better life for the surrounding community. In addition, BRI will continue to strive to improve the welfare of BRILink Agents, especially BRILink Female Agents, by providing various interesting award programs as a form of our appreciation to them." As of the end of May 2026, BRI has 1.13 million BRILink Agents serving communities in over 60,000 villages nationwide, enhancing financial inclusion by making banking services easily accessible.
