CHIANG MAI – A brutal kidnapping and assault has left an employee of the popular Elephant Nature Park critically injured, sparking an intensive manhunt by local police. The victim, Tun Ei, 36, was violently abducted late at night on July 14th. Witnesses reported that Tun Ei was stopped by more than ten unidentified men who had set up an illegal checkpoint on the road outside a local kindergarten in Mae Taeng district. He was forced into a bronze Isuzu D-Max pickup truck, while another white Isuzu D-Max followed, carrying his Honda Wave motorcycle. Later that evening, passing relatives spotted the bronze truck and saw Tun Ei in the back, desperately signaling for help. However, the vehicles managed to escape before anyone could intervene. During the abduction, Tun Ei attempted to call his younger brother to share his location, but communication was lost. He was discovered unconscious the following morning by local rescue workers along a quiet road, showing severe facial bruising and signs of a brutal physical assault. Paramedics rushed him to a hospital where he is currently in a critical coma due to severe brain swelling and internal bleeding. Emergency brain surgery was performed. Saengduean Chailert, president of Elephant Nature Park, highlighted that fake checkpoints and harassment by unidentified groups are a significant problem in the rural area. She is urging authorities to stop these illegal roadblocks to protect innocent citizens.
