BACOLOD CITY, Philippines – An American national and his Filipina wife were found dead inside their house in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental yesterday morning. The 72-year-old American and his 71-year-old wife bore gunshot wounds in their bodies, according to Capt. Stephen Polinar, spokesperson for the Negros Oriental police. The victims, whose identities were withheld pending results of investigation, were found bloodied in their house in Purok Katubhan, Barangay Bajumpandan by their 53-year-old caretaker. The caretaker told police she was awakened by a noise at around 4 a.m., and saw an armed masked man when she peeked from the door of her room. Investigation showed two men possibly broke into the property and attacked the victims. Probers are initially eyeing robbery as the motive for the killing. The incident occurred less than two months after American marine biologist Kent Carpenter was shot dead inside his home in the nearby town of Sibulan on July 12. Five suspects have been arrested and charged with robbery with homicide in connection with Carpenter’s killing.
