Thai Parents Claim Daughter Duped into Carrying Crystal Meth Found at Fukuoka Airport

A 28-year-old Thai woman has been arrested at Fukuoka Airport in Japan on suspicion of smuggling crystal methamphetamine. Her parents claim she was duped into carrying the drugs and have appealed to authorities to investigate the person who hired her. Juthathip, the woman in question, traveled to Japan on July 11 with her boyfriend and a friend. They operated as freelance luggage carriers, transporting goods for Thai residents in Japan. Upon arrival at Fukuoka Airport on July 12, Japanese authorities discovered crystal meth hidden within a coffee packet belonging to Juthathip during a luggage search, leading to her detention. Her parents explained that Juthathip had created a Line group called "THIENTHIEN SHOP" last year to offer luggage-carrying services. On July 10, a Line user identified as "ing ing" contacted the group and asked Juthathip to transport a parcel weighing approximately 12kg to Japan. This parcel was packed in a tightly sealed brown box. Sarawut, her boyfriend, mentioned that the same customer had previously hired her in May, so they did not suspect anything unusual. After the group arrived in Japan, they were questioned by airport officials. While Sarawut and his friend were released after extensive questioning, Juthathip remained in custody. The Royal Thai Consulate-General in Fukuoka was later informed by Japanese police that a stimulant substance had been detected. On July 22, the family received confirmation that crystal meth was allegedly found hidden inside a coffee packet. The group had transported a total of nine boxes. All parcels were collected by customers except for the one sent by "ing ing," who never contacted them for collection and subsequently blocked their communication channels. Juthathip was paid 3,600 baht for this service by the customer, whose payment was reportedly made from an account under the name HO THI MAI. Juthathip's parents are deeply concerned, stating they have been unable to contact their daughter. They have filed a report at Bang Bua Thong Police Station in Nonthaburi and requested CCTV footage to identify the person who delivered the parcel. While acknowledging their daughter might not have been careful enough to inspect the contents, they firmly believe she was deceived and have provided all available evidence to investigators, urging a thorough investigation into the matter and the alleged drug trafficker.
