CHIANG RAI – A daring heist has shaken the peaceful district of Chiang Khong in Chiang Rai, where two heavily armed robbers targeted a popular gold shop within a local shopping mall. The suspects, acting with speed and precision, managed to escape with a significant haul of gold jewelry valued at approximately 13,036,400 Thai baht. The stolen items included gold necklaces weighing a combined 64 baht and gold bracelets totaling 120 baht, amounting to 184 baht in precious metal. The incident has left store owners and staff in shock. Following the robbery, Chiang Khong police immediately launched an investigation. Security camera footage revealed the two perpetrators fleeing the scene on a rented motorcycle. This crucial clue led officers to an abandoned motorcycle found near the iconic Golden Giant Catfish landmark by the Mekong River. Authorities strongly suspect that the robbers have crossed the international border into a neighboring country, likely utilizing a private boat to traverse the wide Mekong River. Chiang Rai province's proximity to Laos makes riverine escapes a common challenge for law enforcement.
