100,000-Baht Reward for Information on Laotian Gold Shop Robbers Fleeing to Laos

THAI police set a 100,000-baht reward for information leading to the arrest of two Laotian robbers who stole around 13-million-baht worth of ornaments from a gold shop in Chiang Khong district of Chiang Rai province last evening (Aug. 4) and fled across the border to their homeland, Amarin TV said this evening. The ornaments the two Laotian robbers stole from Yaowarat Bangkok gold shop include gold necklaces weighing 64 baht and gold bracelets weighing 120 baht, totalling 184 baht of gold, valued at 13,036,400 baht. Pol. Maj. Gen. Manop Senakool, commander of the Chiang Rai Provincial Police, confirmed that the two perpetrators are Laotian nationals. After the crime, they fled on a motorcycle, parking it on the bank of the Mekong River before boarding a pre-arranged boat to cross to Huay Xai town in Laos. Currently, forensic officers are gathering information on the suspects, including data from immigration officers in Chiang Saen and Chiang Khong districts. They are also examining fingerprints and interviewing car rental operators in the area. The initial reward is 100,000 baht, and they are being tracked down in cooperation with Laotian officials. On the Lao side, authorities have been tracing the escape route and seized clothing believed to be the attire worn by the perpetrators during the crime, which had been discarded in Huay Xai area. However, it is believed the suspects have already fled Huay Xai town. Laotian authorities have set up checkpoints along various routes to apprehend them and bring them to justice.
