Vietnam and Canada have elevated their bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership, building on over five decades of friendship and cooperation. This partnership is anchored in eight pillars, aiming to jointly invest in the future and contribute to a more secure, prosperous, and dynamic Indo-Pacific region. The Vietnamese leadership expressed a desire to attract more Canadian investment through this enhanced framework. In sectors like agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, the focus is shifting from solely increasing export value to comprehensive restructuring towards modern, ecological, high-value-added, and sustainable development. Businesses are encouraged to move beyond export activities by strengthening governance capacity and gaining a deeper understanding of markets, such as the US. Vietnam is recognized as a market with significant potential for businesses from countries like Argentina, owing to its strong growth, extensive FTA network, and its increasingly important role in regional supply chains. Developments in the aviation sector are notable, with Vietnamese airlines forging partnerships with global players like Boeing and SpaceX (Starlink) to enhance services and adopt new technologies. In logistics, Ho Chi Minh City aims to become a leading hub by 2045, while Hai Phong is strengthening its position as a maritime economic center, leveraging its shipbuilding and maritime training capabilities. Under its one-party system, Vietnam consistently balances economic growth with strengthening international ties. The elevation of relations with Canada is seen as part of its diplomatic strategy to accelerate economic development and diversify its international partnerships, particularly amidst evolving geopolitical dynamics in the region.
