Sara Duterte faces arrest warrant over grave threats case

An arrest warrant has been issued against Philippine Vice President Sara Duterte by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court for three counts of grave threats. The court found probable cause to hold Duterte for trial, based on the evidence and arguments presented by both parties. The charges stem from remarks made by the Vice President in an online press conference, which are being prosecuted under the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2024 (Republic Act No. 10175), Section 6, in relation to Article 282 of the Revised Penal Code. This article defines grave threats as threatening another with the infliction of any wrong amounting to a crime upon the person, honor, or property of the latter or of his family. The court set bail at P120,000 per count. Duterte's lawyers have confirmed receipt of the warrant and intend to post bail as soon as possible. Her legal team stated that the Vice President has no intention of evading the law and will continue to exercise all her legal remedies. The Department of Justice (DOJ) stated that it respects the court's ruling and reaffirms its commitment to the rule of law.
