QC RTC issues warrant of arrest for VP Sara Duterte over grave threats

Branch 98 of the Quezon City Regional Trial Court has issued a warrant of arrest for Vice President Sara Duterte over three counts of grave threats. The presiding judge, Maria Angelica P. De Ramos, has set bail at P120,000 per count. The charges stem from remarks made by the vice president, who allegedly stated that she had hired an individual to kill President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos, and former Speaker Martin Romualdez, should an alleged plot against her succeed. The Department of Justice (DOJ) subsequently filed three counts of grave threats against her. In response, Duterte filed a motion to quash the warrant, arguing for limited procedural immunity for herself and other impeachable officers while in office under the 1987 Constitution. Oral arguments on this motion were held in late August. Duterte's camp asserted that her remarks were "maliciously taken out of logical context." These alleged grave threats against the Marcoses and Romualdez also form the basis for one of the Articles of Impeachment against her, currently under trial before the Senate impeachment court. –NB, GMA News
