Vietnam has broken ground on a 450MW solar power plant in Tay Ninh province, a move aimed at strengthening national energy security and fostering green growth amidst surging electricity demand. The project is a key initiative to supplement distributed energy sources, alleviate pressure on the national power grid, and enhance the country's economic competitiveness. With electricity demand escalating, particularly during the hot season, Vietnam is prioritizing rooftop solar power as a practical solution. The directive emphasizes the urgent need to ensure safe, stable, and uninterrupted power supply, crucial for economic growth and national energy security. Industrial production has expanded steadily, supported by new production facilities and scaled-up manufacturing. Vietnam is renewing its development model to unlock new growth spaces, mobilize resources effectively, and bolster national competitiveness, with a goal to become a developed, high-income country by 2045. Inflation remains under control, with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) edging down 0.1% in July. The average CPI for January-July rose 4.39% year-on-year, staying within the annual target. Total exports and imports reached $659.58 billion in the first seven months of 2026, up 28.1% year-on-year. Agro-forestry-aquatic product exports totaled nearly $42.8 billion, up 7.5% from the same period last year. Realized FDI reached an estimated $15.2 billion during January-July, an increase of 11.8% year-on-year, marking the highest seven-month disbursement in five years. This indicates Vietnam's growing attractiveness as an investment destination. The construction of this solar power plant signifies Vietnam's accelerated transition to renewable energy and its commitment to sustainable development goals. Large-scale investments in the energy sector are expected to contribute to the overall competitiveness of the economy.
