Cambodia Strengthens Workplace Violence and Harassment Prevention with ILO Support

The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training of Cambodia, in collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO), organized a training course on "Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence and Harassment in the Workplace." The event took place from July 23 to 24, 2026, at the Ministry's headquarters. Her Excellency Sous Serey Nuon, Undersecretary of State, representing His Excellency Heng Sour, Minister of Labour and Vocational Training, presided over the opening ceremony. This training was organized as part of the eighth Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for 2023-2027, a cooperation between the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and the "Better Factories Cambodia" project (ILO-BFC). The objective is to enhance the understanding and capacity of officials from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and provincial/municipal Labour Departments regarding gender equality, and the prevention and response to gender-based violence and harassment (GBVH) in the workplace. Her Excellency Sous Serey Nuon expressed her gratitude to the Better Factories Cambodia project (ILO-BFC) for its continued technical support in organizing this important training. She emphasized that creating a safe workplace that respects human dignity and is free from violence or harassment is a fundamental basis for decent work and sustainable, inclusive socio-economic development. In this regard, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training will continue to cooperate closely with development partners and stakeholders to strengthen the capacity of officials, promote awareness, and drive the effective implementation of preventive and responsive measures against GBVH in the workplace. Her Excellency firmly believes that this training will contribute to building a safe, equitable, inclusive, and mutually respectful working environment, in line with the Cambodian government's policies and international labour standards. Concurrently, Mr. Chea Sophal, Chief of the Labour Conditions Monitoring Unit of the Better Factories Cambodia project (ILO-BFC), highlighted the importance of participation from all relevant parties in preventing and responding to GBVH in the workplace. He expressed his hope that participants will gain new knowledge, skills, and experiences that can be effectively applied in their practical work and shared with other stakeholders. He also reaffirmed the commitment of the Better Factories Cambodia project to continue collaborating with the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training and other partners to promote workers' rights and contribute to building safe workplaces free from violence and harassment for all employees.
