Cambodia: Garment Factory Strike Ends After 6-Point Agreement; Workers to Resume Operations

A strike at Verino Manufacturing Co., Ltd., which began on August 5th, has concluded after all parties reached a 6-point agreement under the mediation of the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training. Workers are expected to resume their duties on the morning of August 7th. Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training spokesperson Sun Mesa stated that the ministry always prioritizes peaceful mediation and dialogue between involved parties to find mutually acceptable solutions. He emphasized that the agreement on the six points is a significant step towards maintaining labor relations stability, protecting the legitimate rights of workers, and ensuring the sustainability of the enterprise's production. The ministry will continue to closely monitor the implementation of this agreement. According to the spirit of the meeting, the key points agreed upon include the local union and workers resuming their respective duties as usual, and adhering to their rights and obligations in accordance with the Labor Law, the Law on Trade Unions, the company's statutes, and internal regulations. Concurrently, the company has agreed to review and improve internal management. The head of the company's administration department will modify his attitude and work methods within a three-month period. If no improvements are made as agreed, the company will proceed according to the jointly agreed-upon terms. Furthermore, the company has agreed to instruct the administration and accounting departments to review the calculation and payment of wages to workers to ensure accuracy. In parallel, the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training will assign the Department of Labor Inspection to conduct a special inspection to examine and monitor the implementation of labor laws at the company. Currently, the majority of workers have agreed to return to work today, in line with the consensus reached by all parties. The Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training will continue to monitor and facilitate to ensure that the implementation of the six points proceeds smoothly and in accordance with the law.
