Cambodia: Verino Garment Factory Strike Ends After 6-Point Agreement
A strike at Verino Garment Factory in Cambodia has concluded following mediation by the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training. All parties agreed on six points, with workers returning to their jobs on August 7th. The agreement aims to stabilize labor relations and ensure production continuity.
Phnom Penh, Cambodia – August 7, 2026 Following mediation by officials from the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, a strike involving workers at Verino Garment Factory Co., Ltd. has been resolved. All involved parties have reached an agreement on six key points, leading to the workers' return to their posts on the morning of August 7, 2026. Mr. Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, stated that the ministry consistently prioritizes peaceful resolution and dialogue among all parties to find mutually acceptable solutions. He emphasized that the agreement on the six points is a significant step towards maintaining stable labor relations, protecting the legitimate rights of workers, and ensuring the sustainability of the enterprise's production. The ministry will continue to closely monitor the implementation of this agreement. Key points of the agreement include the commitment from the local union and employees to resume their duties as usual, adhering to their rights and obligations in accordance with the Labor Law, the Law on Trade Unions, company statutes, and internal regulations. The company has also agreed to review and improve its internal management. The head of administration is expected to modify their conduct and working methods within three months. Failure to implement these improvements will result in actions based on the agreed terms. Furthermore, the company will instruct its administrative and accounting departments to ensure accurate calculation and payment of wages to the employees. In parallel, the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training will task the Department of Labour Inspection with conducting a special inspection to oversee and monitor the company's compliance with labor laws. A majority of the workers have agreed to return to work as per the collective agreement.
