Cambodia's Agriculture and Tourism Ministries Ink MoU to Boost 'Green Belt' in Tourist Areas

On the morning of August 1, 2026, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, led by H.E. Dit Tina, and the Ministry of Tourism, led by H.E. Huot Hak, presided over the signing ceremony for a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 'Cooperation to Promote Green Belts in Tourist Areas and Agricultural Production Chains.' The event took place at the ASEAN-Korea Cambodia Garden in Siem Reap Province. This 'Green Belt' cooperation is designed to foster supply chains through agricultural communities, aiming to enhance the livelihoods of citizens and increase added value for the agri-tourism sector, particularly in key tourist areas such as Siem Reap. Farmers and local communities will gain sources of income, while the tourism sector will experience growth, creating a win-win situation for all involved, manifesting as 'export on the spot.' In this context, farmers and agricultural communities will play a crucial role in supplying agricultural products, ensuring the sustainability of supply, price, and quantity through connections to the agri-tourism market. 'Export on the spot' and mutual complementarity are essential factors for the agri-tourism sector. This means that where tourist destinations are located, the sources of supply—including vegetables, fish, and meat—will also be present, aiming to expand production capacity and increase income for local communities through agriculture and additional benefits from tourism.
