Cambodia to Promote 'Green Belt' Initiative Linking Agriculture and Tourism

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, led by H.E. Dith Tina, and the Ministry of Tourism, led by H.E. Hout Hak, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on "Cooperation to Promote the Green Belt in Tourist Areas" on the morning of August 1, 2026, at the ASEAN-Korea Cambodia Garden in Siem Reap Province. This "Green Belt" cooperation will help create supply chains through agricultural communities, aiming to improve the livelihoods of the people and increase the added value for the agro-tourism sector, particularly in key tourist areas like Siem Reap province. Farmers and local communities will gain a source of income, and the tourism sector will see growth, leading to a win-win outcome for all, manifested as "on-site exports." In this regard, farmers and agricultural communities will play a role in supplying agricultural products, ensuring the sustainability of supply, price, and quantity by connecting to the agro-tourism market. National and international tourists will also be able to experience a unique sensation by visiting the production chains of Cambodia's potential agricultural products. "On-site exports" and mutual complementarity are essential factors for the agro-tourism sector. This means that wherever there are tourist areas, there will be sources of supply, including vegetables, fish, and meat, aiming to expand the scope of production, increase income for local communities through agriculture, and provide additional dividends from the tourism sector.
