US President Congratulates Vietnam on National Day

US President Donald Trump sent a congratulatory message to the leaders and people of Vietnam on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of National Day. In a message posted on the US Embassy in Hanoi's Facebook and Instagram accounts on September 1, President Trump affirmed that Vietnam's independence is a testament to the strength and resilience of the Vietnamese people and a "legacy that continues to inspire the friendship that our two nations proudly share today." President Trump emphasized that the US values the growing partnership with Vietnam, particularly the progress made within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and the shared commitment of both sides to peace, prosperity, and stability throughout the Indo-Pacific region. "We welcome Vietnam's growing global leadership role as a partner of the United States, including its prominent role as a founding member supporting the Peace Council," he stated. The President expressed his desire to build on this progress and "work together to ensure our shared prosperity and security in the future," wishing Vietnam "a year of even greater success, peace, and prosperity." The relationship between Vietnam and the US was normalized in July 1995 and upgraded to a Comprehensive Partnership in July 2013, with numerous high-level visits between leaders of the two countries. The two sides cooperate in all fields, from politics-diplomacy, economy, education, to science-technology, defense-security. In September 2023, Vietnam and the US established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation, and sustainable development. In February, General Secretary and President To Lam attended the inaugural meeting of the Peace Council on the Gaza Strip in Washington at the invitation of President Trump, in his capacity as a founding member nation.
