ACS Manufacturing Embraces Green Energy with ACEN Partnership
Philippine soap and toothpaste maker ACS Manufacturing Corp. is transitioning its operations to 100% renewable energy through a partnership with ACEN Corp. This move is expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 4,270 metric tons annually.
MANILA, Philippines — ACS Manufacturing Corp., a prominent Philippine manufacturer of household brands such as “Pride” detergent, “Shield” bath soap, and “Unique” toothpaste, has announced its transition to 100 percent renewable energy for its two manufacturing facilities in Laguna. This initiative is realized through a supply agreement with ACEN Corp. Under the partnership, ACEN RES, the retail electricity arm of the Ayala Group, will supply electricity to ACS’ plants sourced from its portfolio of solar, wind, and geothermal assets. This move is projected to help ACS reduce its carbon dioxide equivalent emissions by approximately 4,270 metric tons annually, a figure comparable to the amount of CO2 absorbed by over 193,000 trees each year. ACS CEO Mai Supetran stated, “Our switch to renewable energy for our Laguna plants is a strategic move to align our manufacturing processes with our commitment to the environment.” She further emphasized that partnering with a reliable group like Ayala ensures the company contributes to a sustainable future while producing quality products for Filipino homes. The energy transition was facilitated through the government’s Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) program and Retail Aggregation Program (RAP). RCOA allows large electricity consumers with a monthly peak demand of at least 100 kilowatts to directly negotiate with their preferred energy supplier, while RAP enables smaller end-users to pool their demand to meet the 100-kW threshold. Tony Valdez, ACEN’s senior vice president for market transformation and retail, highlighted that companies like ACS choosing to switch to renewable energy empower ACEN to continue developing more renewable energy assets in the country. He affirmed their commitment to assisting more eligible customers in navigating RCOA and RAP programs to achieve both cost savings and a significant reduction in their environmental impact. As the country’s leading green energy supplier, ACEN RES continues to strengthen its presence in the retail electricity market, supporting the national goal of scaling up the share of renewables in the country’s power mix to 35 percent by 2030 and 50 percent by 2040, from the current 25 percent.
