Cambodia Deports 14 Thais Over Alleged Online Scams

By: Ngoeul Narath PHNOM PENH, Aug 6, 2026 (KPT) – Cambodia has deported 14 Thai nationals accused of involvement in online scams and other offenses, immigration authorities said Thursday. The group, including three women, was sent back to Thailand via the Cham Yeam International Border Checkpoint in Koh Kong province, the General Department of Immigration said in a statement. It said investigations found the Thais had engaged in alleged online fraud, narcotics offences, illegal stay and unauthorised employment in the kingdom. The deportations were carried out under the directive of Prime Minister Hun Manet, who has ordered tougher action against criminals and illegal residents using Cambodian territory for scam operations. Authorities pledged to continue cracking down on cybercrime, dismantling suspected networks and assisting victims, saying enforcement aims to safeguard Cambodia’s security and reputation while supporting international efforts against cross‑border crime. The move follows a large‑scale operation on April 30, when 635 Thai nationals allegedly linked to online scams were deported through the Poipet International Border Gate in Banteay Meanchey province. Cambodian officials said they will keep monitoring and taking action against foreign nationals found engaged in illegal activities.
