Cambodia Deports 14 Thai Nationals for Online Scams and Other Offenses

Cambodian authorities on August 6, 2026, deported 14 Thai nationals, including three women, who were found to be involved in online scams, illegal drug possession, and other offenses. The deportation took place at the international border checkpoint of Cham Yeam in Koh Kong province. According to the General Department of Immigration, these Thai nationals were identified as being involved in online scams, illegally possessing and using narcotics, and residing and working illegally in the Kingdom of Cambodia. The General Department of Immigration stated that this operation to deport illegal foreign residents was carried out in accordance with the firm directive of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet. He has unequivocally stated that Cambodia will not allow its territory to be used as a base for criminal activities such as scams or other offenses that threaten regional and global security. Authorities are instructed to continue cleaning up, cracking down, and deporting without exception to protect national honor and security. The General Department of Immigration further affirmed that law enforcement forces under the Ministry of Interior are diligently working to eradicate technology-based crimes, investigate and apprehend ringleaders, and assist victims of fraud in regaining their freedom and returning to their home countries safely. It is recalled that Cambodia previously conducted a large-scale deportation on April 30, 2026, of Thai nationals involved in online scams. At that time, Cambodian authorities, based on humanitarian principles, deported 635 Thai nationals to Thailand via the Poipet International Border Checkpoint in Banteay Meanchey province after completing the legal procedures according to Cambodian law.
