Indonesian Embassy in Algeria Introduces Culture Through Chicken Satay

The Indonesian Republic Embassy (KBRI) in Algiers, Algeria, has embraced culinary diplomacy, distributing over 120 servings of chicken satay to local residents on Friday, July 17. The initiative, dubbed "Mazdak Indonesia" meaning "Taste of Indonesia" in Arabic, also served as an introductory event for the new Indonesian Ambassador to Algeria, Yusron B Ambary. The concept draws inspiration from a common Indonesian practice where new residents offer food to their neighbors to foster good relations. Ambassador Yusron explained that chicken satay was chosen for its resemblance to "brochette," a popular skewered meat or chicken dish in Algeria. The key difference lies in the accompaniment, with Indonesian satay served with peanut sauce, while brochette is typically enjoyed without sauce. Local residents reportedly responded very positively to the Indonesian specialty, expressing their liking for the dish. The embassy plans to make "Mazdak Indonesia" a series of sustainable activities to continuously introduce Indonesia to the Algerian people through its rich culinary heritage, aiming to strengthen community ties and cultural understanding.
