Indonesian Embassy in Algeria Promotes Nation Through Chicken Satay

The Indonesian Republic Embassy (KBRI) in Algeria has adopted culinary diplomacy to introduce Indonesia to the local community. On Friday, July 17, over 120 servings of chicken satay were distributed to residents passing by the embassy. The activity, titled "Mazdak Indonesia" which translates to "the taste of Indonesia" in Arabic, also served as an introduction event for the new Indonesian Ambassador to Algeria, Yusron B Ambary, to the surrounding residents. The concept behind the initiative is inspired by a common Indonesian tradition where new residents distribute food to their neighbors as a gesture of introduction and a desire to build good relations. Ambassador Yusron explained that chicken satay was chosen due to its similarities with "brochette," a popular meat or chicken skewer dish in Algeria. Both dishes involve skewering small pieces of meat or chicken and grilling them over charcoal. The primary difference lies in their presentation. Indonesian chicken satay is typically served with peanut sauce, whereas brochette is generally consumed without sauce or with a different condiment. According to Ambassador Yusron, the local residents responded very positively to the Indonesian specialty. "The response of local residents who attended and tried the chicken satay was very positive. They liked it," he stated. The embassy plans to make the "Mazdak Indonesia" program a series of sustainable activities aimed at continuously introducing Indonesia to the Algerian people through its cuisine. Through this program, the Indonesian Embassy in Algeria seeks to strengthen ties with the local community while showcasing the richness of Indonesian culture through its food.
