Roadwork Accident in Mui Ne, Vietnam: Resort Wall Collapse Injures Two Construction Workers

An accident occurred on the afternoon of August 8th in Mui Ne (Lam Dong Province), a popular resort town in central Vietnam, when a resort wall collapsed during road construction, resulting in one death and one injury among two construction workers. This incident happened shortly after authorities had requested enhanced safety measures, and an investigation into the cause is underway. The accident took place around 2:30 PM on the same day, during the repair and widening project of Nguyen Dinh Chieu Street, aimed at installing a centralized wastewater treatment system for the Mui Ne National Tourist Area. While the construction unit was excavating the road, the wall of the adjacent Hoang Ngoc Resort suddenly collapsed, directly hitting two workers. Following the accident, colleagues and local residents quickly cleared the wall and rushed the victims to the hospital. However, one person was confirmed dead during transport. The deceased has been identified as Mr. Duong Minh Ngoc (born 1976), residing in Hoa Thang village. The injured individual, Mr. Tran Thanh Sang (born 1978), residing in Ham Liem village, is currently receiving medical treatment. The wall, observed at the scene to be over 2 meters high, had a very rudimentary foundation. Prior to the incident, the Mui Ne People's Committee had issued a written request to the construction contractor and related parties to strengthen labor safety and health assurance during construction. Upon receiving the report, Mui Ne Police secured the scene and are collaborating with specialized departments of the Provincial Police to collect camera footage and verify related information. Vietnam is facing challenges in thoroughly implementing labor safety management amidst rapid economic growth and ongoing infrastructure development. Particularly in development projects within tourist areas, balancing economic contributions to the region with safety assurance is crucial.
