Indonesia Appoints New Finance Minister Suahasil, Predecessor Replaced During Official Meeting
Indonesia's President Prabowo Subianto has replaced Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa with Suahasil Nazara. Purbaya was informed of his dismissal during an official meeting.
President Prabowo Subianto has officially appointed Suahasil Nazara as the new Minister of Finance, replacing Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, on Monday (14/8). Suahasil was inaugurated at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta around 4:00 PM Western Indonesian Time (WIB). At the same moment the inauguration was taking place, Purbaya was attending a meeting with the Fourth Committee of the DPD (Regional Representative Council), which was also attended by representatives from Bappenas and Bank Indonesia, at the parliamentary complex. During the inauguration ceremony, Ahmad Nawardi, the chairman of the committee, interrupted Purbaya's ongoing meeting. He informed Purbaya to take a call from the Minister/State Secretary (Mensesneg). "Minister, I will cut you off briefly, there is a call from the Minister/State Secretary. Please check it," said Nawardi. Purbaya appeared confused by the interruption but immediately left the meeting room and did not return. Purbaya was officially dismissed by President Prabowo as part of a cabinet reshuffle. Suahasil's appointment is stipulated in Presidential Decree No. 97p of 2026 concerning the Dismissal and Appointment of the Minister of Finance of the Merah Putih Cabinet for the Remainder of the 2024-2029 Term. Suahasil previously served as the Deputy Minister of Finance since October 2019, during Sri Mulyani's tenure as finance minister under former President Joko Widodo (Jokowi). He held the same position in the Prabowo-Gibran Rakabuming Raka Cabinet since October 2024. Source: CNN Indonesia
